Palgrove Charolais

Australia’s leading registered Charolais breeder. We have been committed to breeding Charolais cattle for over 50 years.

Palgrove Charolais has the largest registered herd of Charolais cattle in Australia, with over 2000 females plus an extensive embryo transplant program.

In the last ten years, Palgrove Charolais has focused on increasing the number of polled cattle we produce in response to client demand. We now have the largest polled herd in the country with over 1,000 polled breeding females, with this number increasing substantially every year.

Our cow herd is bred to be moderate framed, functional, very fertile and commercially focused.

Our Charolais offer the complete crossbreeding package over Bos Indicus or British breed females to produce grass-fed or feedlot progeny that will suit premium markets. Don’t under estimate the hybrid vigour ‘free lunch’ and the real profits our Charolais bulls can add to a cross breeding program.

Leaders in breeding, sourcing and measuring high performing genetics that improve profitability and efficiency in commercial beef production.

Our investment in breeding, recording and data has enabled us to help shape the breed into the functional and market adaptable cattle they have become today.

Our History

In 1969, Peter and Valerie Bondfield ran Shorthorn and Brahman beef cattle on their marginal cattle country near Stanthorpe in Qld. They concluded that the only way to increase profitability off the limited land base was to introduce new genetics.

The ‘game changer’ came in the form of the Charolais breed, which offered more weight and higher yields over their existing commercial females.

They soon realised that these magnificent French cattle could revolutionise crossbreeding in Australia. Palgrove Charolais stud was born in 1970 and a new era began for the Bondfield family.

For over forty years, we have adapted our Charolais genetics through a commitment to research, education, new technologies and a common sense ‘cattleman’s eye’ to suit clients’ environmental and management conditions. Palgrove now has the largest registered Charolais herd in Australia.
